about

The Pretender and Memory Ends are two seperate songs that flow together. Memory Ends was inspired by the riff I started playing on the Harmonium at the end of The Pretender, and is about the loss of a good friend.

lyrics

The Pretender

Let’s be someone
That we’d like to be
Train our minds to think
The thoughts they’d think
Be good models
For society

We can pretend
They’ll never know

Cast our shadows
In a different light
A constant
In life’s inconstancy
Fake it ‘til you make it
I believe

We can pretend
They’ll never know

Memory Ends

The postman leaves our letters
By your door
To be placed upon the shelves
Of evermore

Warm light beams through your window
Every morn
Then it slowly moves across
Your dusty floor

The light is gone
When memory ends

Remembering the games
You used to play
As your mind and body
Go their separate ways

Does the memory of your birth
Come back again
I imagine the shock is
Overwhelming?

The light is gone
When memory ends

One day the postman passes
By your door
While inside, our letters spill
Across your floor
