David Freshman Custard Flux, (and Curvey), the genius behind this Music, along with Luck of Eden Hall, has his focus on creating Music that has hooks, parts that will take you to other worlds, and is always fascinating! His use of the Mellotron, Harmonium, Guitars, Vocals, and the musicians he works with are all of the highest order! I would highly suggest to anyone who enjoys enthralling, interesting Music to go for this! And hunt out any and all CDs by this man.

The Pretender Let’s be someone That we’d like to be Train our minds to think The thoughts they’d think Be good models For society We can pretend They’ll never know Cast our shadows In a different light A constant In life’s inconstancy Fake it ‘til you make it I believe We can pretend They’ll never know Memory Ends The postman leaves our letters By your door To be placed upon the shelves Of evermore Warm light beams through your window Every morn Then it slowly moves across Your dusty floor The light is gone When memory ends Remembering the games You used to play As your mind and body Go their separate ways Does the memory of your birth Come back again I imagine the shock is Overwhelming? The light is gone When memory ends One day the postman passes By your door While inside, our letters spill Across your floor

The Gardener When I was Just seventeen I’d dreamed up a scheme Try my luck at chance I’d never Dressed up in drag Or carried Mother’s handbag I borrowed The family car Didn’t have to go far To an adjacent town Straight to the First National Bank I had a note in the bag Now I find Peace of mind Growing sweet Sage and thyme I entered Through swinging doors Across a white marble floor I handed the Teller my note After he read what I wrote I gave him Mother’s bag Hurriedly I walked to the car Didn’t have to go far Now I find Peace of mind Growing sweet Sage and thyme I buried the Cash in our yard No one followed the car A few summers Had come and gone I told a couple of friends My pride I couldn’t hide Mother cried “What’s all this then? There’s a couple men From the government.”

The Man in Blue Wants Out of His Suit Old man Waltzing through the days Mask worn Over his decay Nose runs Down his upper lip Both hands Slowly losing grip Young man Dreaming through the night Tries hard To do everything right Under Shrouds of disbelief Specters That only he can see The man in blue Wants out of his suit Dead man Waiting to be reborn Drifting Through primordial porridge

Roses And Wine Then she slammed the door Screaming never more Like a child all day Wanting her own way Days of roses and wine again Memories froze On your smile of gold As the memes scrolled by My hypnotic eye Days of roses and wine again One cold winter breeze Warmed by your Imageries Through the meadow land Running free Phone in hand Crooked line of trees Stood between Memories Like a closing door Clearly marked Never more

The Devil May Care Be the aster in disaster Travel far Spiraling upward even faster Superstar Spread your arms across the heavens Hug the clouds Now you’re rolling only sevens And dressing loud Look at you now The Devil May care You’re on another bender Can’t escape who you are People think you’re looking better From afar Look at you now The Devil May care Universal laws will shape you Who you are Spread your arms across the heavens Superstar Look at you now The Devil May care

Staring Straight Into The Sun Following talking heads Is illogical Checking your resource’s More reliable Sadus in rivers Praying to the giver Washing believers And converting sinners You can clearly see better Staring straight at the sun Hold them accountable Not invincible Give your wealth to the poor And good principles Sadus in rivers Taking from givers Conning believers The worst of all sinners When I was a youngster The lambs on the felt board We’re corralled by a canine Disguised as a Shepard You can clearly see better Staring straight at the sun

The Face of Mankind My books are piled high The candles are burned Prostrate in the dark With all that I’ve learned I’m trying to find The face of mankind In a shattered mirror I wish you were here I can see We’re all in this together My nose to the floor Composing a score In my final years Please give me your ears I’m trying to find The face of mankind In a shattered mirror I wish you were here I can see We’re all in this together Call it a day Glowing through the trees You see the Sun Slipping away Like memories of friends We had when we were young So you give chase Trying to see the forest Through the trees Call it a day Clear your mind Enjoy eternal peace

about

I started writing and recording the basic tracks for this album right after the release of Oxygen. The following Spring, I bought a 1974 Harley Davidson Sportster, and was seduced by chrome, and the smell of burning oil. I spent the entire Summer riding and becoming a grease monkey. It was a fine escape from the COVID madness, and gave me time to write, and compile enough songs to create, what I feel, is a positive, strong album. I hope you enjoy it.

Many thanks to my mates Vito Greco and Timothy Prettyman, and to Mars Williams and Jay Tausig, for their outstanding contributions to this album. Much love and appreciation to Gregory Chamberlin for the use of his beautiful paintings, to Patrice Hawks-Reed, Cary Grace, Keith Jones, and August Forte for their much needed help, to Lee Klawans for his photographs, and to Mick Dillingham for his inspirational liner notes. Also, a special thanks to Linda Curvey, Al Grimm, Jo Kendall, Dave Thompson, Jason Barnard, Mark Waters, Michalis Lagopatis, Don Valentine, Hans Werksman, Stan Hilborn, Mike Nikolich, Fruits de Mer Records, NOVO Arts Publicity, and the global array of DJs and Bloggers for their continued support. I would like to give a very special thanks to Tom Challenger for his gracious gift and support. Thank YOU for listening.
